Happy Family was the 6th animated movie I was able to add some intersting elements. Since we knew we had to do a lot of particles, we updated our partio tools, an maya implementation of the opensource Partio library. Since out main 3d package Maya does not really support alembic meshes with changing topology and additional channels what is used often for the rendering of water, I added an Arnold alembic procedural. I improved our inhouse shader and added some other tools.
On the other side I was responsible for the VFX as a supervisor and as VFX artist. I created most of the water effects, lightnings, clouds, snow and an sound based system to create the visible breath of the characters.
