Back to Gaya was the very first animated feature developed by Ambient Entertainment which was released in 2004. Almost the whole rendering was done with Autodesk Maya Software rendering. We always hit the limit
of the rendering machines which had 2GByte of ram where after loading the scene and pre render processes, about 800mb were free for rendering, a really challenging task. My resonsabilities here included the development of the pipeline, rendering pipeline as well as character setup and effects work. During the work on Gaya this new exciting in Maya was released called "Fluid Effects". We used it for some quite nice cloud effects. In this movie, the whole hair creation process was done in 3dsMax with ShagHair. We created a simple caching system to transport the geometry from maya to max including some possibilities to read locators for lights and the camera. For this movie we wrote our own render managing system for which I wrote the windows clients and job user interface.
